A total of 42 MTBs were constructed, there were 20 vessels to the Norwegian Navy, 2 vessels to the German Navy, 14 vessels to the US Navy and 6 to the Greek Navy. Moreover, the license rights were sold to USA. It was the first time in history that the USA imported naval vessels.

The naval architect was the well known Jan Herman Linge (son of Captain Martin Linge who led the Kompani Linge during WW2), and the constructor was A/S Westermoen Båtbyggeri og Mekanisk Verksted, later Båtservice and today GOT.
